Pickle’s owner has come to realize that Pickle needs a different home than she has been able to offer. This decision has come about after realizing that being away on trips has an adverse effect on Pickle. He is a cat that needs a ton of attention, and he is closely bonded to his humans. When the owner is absent, Pickle reacts by marking territory outside of his litter box. It is obvious that Pickle needs someone who is almost always home to give him the companionship he needs. He is a very sweet boy, a purring machine that loves cuddle-time.

Pickle’s Personality

Please see above- he is extremely affectionate, almost dog like. He will climb into bed and sleep under the covers with you. He is very playful and vocal (like all Siamese cats). He is skittish with new people, but after he warms up to you he is a total mush. He does not do well with being left alone for long periods of time or days on end if you travel. He has lived with other cats and dogs and is very friendly with new animals. He has been a partial outdoor cat (we let him out into our enclosed backyard area under supervision).

Why is Pickle Being Rehomed?

I have had Pickle for 6 years, ever since an ex-partner left him with me. He was born in Detroit and has traveled with me to Chicago, Cincinnati, and spends the summers in rural Connecticut. He loves riding in the car!

Most of the year I live in a tiny apartment with my partner and another cat. We travel often for short periods of time, and unfortunately Pickle pees and sprays every time we leave, even with a cat sitter coming twice a day or sleeping over. This has been an ongoing issue since I’ve moved to NYC.

I’ve tried everything including diffusers, extra play times, litter boxes, etc. I am at my wits end with this situation. He is extremely loving and affectionate, almost like a dog, but he is also super needy. I think he would be much happier in a larger apartment, possibly with access to a yard. I think an owner who is retired or at home most of the day would be perfect. He gets along very well with other pets. He can be skittish initially but after he warms up to you, he is like a stuffed animal- he will climb into bed and cuddle or sleep on your pillow.

Pickle’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Pickle needs to be with a cat lover who lives for the cuddles and affection of a big, super sweet cat. Pickles is a “needy” boy and thrives on human attention. He needs to be in a home where he is the only pet, and with an owner who is home much of the time. His litter-box issues seem to coincide with trips that his owner has taken without him.

In a home where he does not need to claim and reinforce territory, he should overcome this behavior. It is important that his new owner will be understanding if he has any accidents initially. Once he  understands that you and your home are all his, he will be just fine. He is a big cat, so needs a large litter box.
